Got an older Kindle? Kindle Click isn't for it.

Amazon's Kindle Click ($34.99, ships Oct 28) only works with Kindles released in 2024 or later.

We're finding out whether owners of older Kindles want a night-reading kit: a screen-tap page-turner clicker plus a reading light. Check your Kindle, then tell us if you'd want one.

What Amazon says

The 2024 line.

Kindle Click pairs by Bluetooth, and Amazon limits it to newer Kindles. If your Kindle launched before 2024, it is on the wrong side of the line.

“Kindle Click is not compatible with any Kindle device launched before 2024, including Amazon Kindle (2022 release) and Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (11th Generation).”

Amazon names the 2022 Kindle and the 11th-gen Paperwhite. Everything else follows its “launched before 2024” rule. Amazon's page has no model-by-model table, so we sorted models by release year (years from public Kindle release lists). Use the checker below for your exact model.

Will Kindle Click work with my Kindle?

Pick your Kindle and the year it was released (not the year you bought it). Takes ten seconds.

I don't know which Kindle I have
  1. On amazon.com, open Your Account, then Manage Your Content and Devices, then Devices. Each Kindle is listed with its full name and generation.
  2. On the Kindle, open Settings, then Device Options, then Device Info (menu names vary by model).
  3. Match the generation to the list above. Choose “Something else / not listed” if you can't find it, and we'll tell you what to check.

The plan

What we'd build, and what we don't know yet.

We have not ordered samples. If enough people want this, we will, and we'll test it on real older Kindles before we sell anything.

Planned, not final

Screen-tap clicker

A small clicker that taps the touchscreen for you, so it doesn't depend on your Kindle supporting a Bluetooth remote. That is why it can work on Kindles Amazon's remote skips.

Reading light

A light you can set warm or neutral, for reading in a dark room without waking anyone.

Not decided or not tested yet

Open questions

  • Price and launch date. Neither is set.
  • Which Kindle models it works on. We expect touchscreen models, but we haven't tested any. Some existing tap clickers list the Kindle 7th and 8th gen as unsupported, so we'd test those first.
  • Battery life, range and size. No numbers until we've measured samples.
  • Bath use. We won't call anything water-resistant until it passes our own splash test.

Questions

Straight answers.

Is anything for sale?

No. There is no store and no checkout. This page measures interest so we know whether to build the kit.

Should I just buy Kindle Click?

If your Kindle was released in 2024 or later, yes, it is built for those. This kit is for Kindles it doesn't support.

Will a tap clicker work on my Kindle?

We think it will on most touchscreen Kindles, but we haven't tested any yet. Kindles with buttons and no touchscreen can't work with a screen-tap clicker at all, and the checker says so.

What happens to my email?

It goes to our email service, you confirm it, and it receives this one project's updates. Every email has an unsubscribe link. We don't sell or share it.
